What are you giving up for Lent? #GrowthMindset

Lil Mama, powerfully uses the metaphor of “lip gloss” to inspire us all to grow in self confidence and self worth. Lip Gloss is the the “thing” that makes her feel special, powerful and worthy. Her Mum rightly points out at the end of the video, it wasn't the “lip gloss that was great, it was her and she was the source of her own power and confidence. Today’s blog is about the “growth mindset”, as coined by Dr. Carol S. Dweck in her book, “Mindset, changing the way you think to fulfil your potential”.

Her book is a fantastic call to arms, to enable us to move from a “fixed mindset” to a “growth mindset”. A “fixed and growth mindset” will be outlined below:

Fixed Mindset

A fixed mindset is as it sounds. A person that seeks instant results and neglects the opportunity to learn from failure. They are very hard on themselves and constantly striving for perfection and are not as resilient when they encounter setbacks on the way to completing their tasks. They are also quite risk averse and don’t seek to challenge themselves or to strive to learn new things and or push themselves towards positive personal growth.

Growth Mindset

A growth mindset is something that we should all aspire to and work towards. A person with a growth mindset is someone that accepts that change is constant. They are open to learning, undertaking new experiences and challenging themselves to reach their goals. They are open and know challenges will come, crucially they seek to overcome them and to personally develop.

Today, I’m going to share 4 things you should adopt for Lent - the next 40 days!

1 Positive Affirmations

It’s easy to become besties with your negative thoughts. So for the next 40 days, I’d like you to write down 3 positive affirmations that you will say to yourself every morning when you start the day. Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed and say them aloud. An example would be, “I am powerful, confident and strong” and repeat it 10 times.

2 Making a plan

If you have been meaning to commit to a positive change. You might like to use the next 40 days to write a step by step plan to help you meet your goal, learn or instill positive change within your routines. Please use the previous blog on performance review for some inspiration.

3 Committing to taking Action

There is never a perfect time to change! There will always be something! So in the next 40 days, I ask you to commit to taking action on learning, giving time to yourself or spending time with friends and family. Start TODAY!

4 Celebrate yourself!

Last month it was Valentine's Day and I encouraged you to find an eternal love for yourself. Please refer to my blog, My Endless Love

Please join me in taking up the Self Care Challenge! For the next 40 days do something each week to celebrate yourself. Record it for yourself or share it with the world! #40daysofselfcelebration
